As Brody would say....Yucky, Yucky!

Whew…..what a week. Sorry for the long post, but I treat this blog sometimes like my journal and it is therapeutic for me to write all of this down.

Last week was my birthday and I had a great day. Wednesday was pretty uneventful….went to work, came home, ate some dinner, put the kids to bed, and watched some TV. Thursday during the day was fine, and I got stuck in traffic on the way home. Ted had an appointment to get his hair cut Thursday night at 7:00 so luckily I got home about 6:40. Brody was just getting into the bath and I took over while Ted left for his appointment. I got Brody ready for bed, read him some books and then put him in bed for the night. I went into our room to play with Molly for a little bit before I got ready to put her down. After about 10 minutes, I heard him crying and I went in there and he threw his stuff out of the crib. Nothing out of the ordinary. I gave it back and told him to go back to bed. I was back in our room for about 5 minutes and I heard him crying again. I thought “not again…we are not doing this tonight!” Well, when I went in there, he got sick in his crib. It wasn’t much so I changed his shirt, his sheet and put him back to bed. He didn’t seem sick and he didn’t feel warm so I just thought maybe something upset his stomach. I went back into the room and didn’t hear a peep out of him for the next 30 minutes or so.

I started to get Molly ready for bed and I started feeding her. I was maybe 5 minutes into feeding her when I heard him crying and the unfortunate sound that I did not want to hear…..him getting sick. I stood up, in her dark room, and thought “What the hell am I going to do?” I didn’t want to stop feeding Molly since I just started but I couldn’t leave Brody in there because I knew he was getting sick. And of course, Ted was still not back from getting his hair cut. Well, I put Molly down, gave her her pacifier, and she didn’t make a peep. I went into Brody’s room and was horrified by what I saw. He got sick EVERYWHERE! It was all over him, his sheet, his crib, the floor…..EVERYWHERE! I scooped him up and put him straight in the bath. Got him out, put on his diaper, stripped his bed, grabbed his rug and threw all of it in the bath tub. I took him downstairs and gave him some pedialyte. All the while, Molly is still in her room not making a peep! (Have I expressed how awesome of a child I have……she is soooooo good I have a hard time believing it myself sometimes!). So, we headed up stairs in his room and I had him sip the pedialyte. When Ted walked in, I sent him in to finish feeding Molly and putting her down for the night. Right then, Brody got sick again, all over his room. Orange pedialyte on light carpet is not good! So, after Ted got done, we decided one of us was going to have to stay with him for the night because this seemed like it might continue. Well, Ted was the chosen one because he was able to stay home from work the next day. Brody got sick a few more times and then finally zonked out around 11:00 pm. Ted said he got up one more time during the night to get sick, but that it had been a while when I went in there the next morning. I know Brody had no clue what was going on because we made a little bed for him on the floor next to Ted. He kept asking about getting back in his crib, but Ted told him they were “camping!” Needless to say, the next day, he had a few bad diapers, but it was over as quick as it came. He seemed to be fine, with the exception of a limited appetite, the rest of the time.

So that was Thursday/Friday. Ted and I had made dinner reservations for Saturday night and we were planning to stay out at a hotel. We were trying to decide if we wanted to still go considering what went on with Brody, but since he was fine all day Friday and Saturday, we thought we would try. Ted picked Ethan up on Friday and we had him for the weekend. So, my parents came over Saturday around mid-day and we left for the hotel around 2:00 pm. It was nice to be able to go out with my husband, just me and him. It has been a long time since we have done that! Our plan was to go to the hotel first, take showers and get ready, then walk to dinner. Our hotel was about a block away. Well, we got ready, headed to dinner and as we were walking, Ted started to not feel good. I asked him if he wanted to cancel dinner and he said he didn’t, but that his sickness was coming in waves. I had some nausea medicine in my purse and gave him one when we got to the restaurant. Dinner was really, really good (we went to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse). We were supposed to meet a few of my friends after dinner for some drinks for my birthday, but Ted said he wasn’t up to it so we headed back to the hotel. My girlfriend’s met me at the hotel bar, that way I was able to check on Ted, but still have a few drinks. Ted ended up getting sick, but slept for most of the night and felt better Sunday morning.

When I woke up, I wasn’t feeling great, but figured it was alcohol-related. Well, shortly thereafter, my Mom called and said that Ethan started getting sick. They got him settled in bed and he was resting. Right after, I started feeling horrible and we checked out of the hotel and headed home. I didn’t make it to the car before I started getting sick and it continued all day. Finally around 6:00, my parents came and got me and we headed to the ER because I was so dehydrated. They put in an IV and gave me some medicine. They said it was the norovirus and that I was the 10th person they had seen that day with the same thing. Apparently, it is running rampant right now and everyone is getting it. After a few minutes or so, my Mom started getting sick so they put her in a room as well and started her on fluids. Thankfully, we were both feeling better within a couple hours and headed home. When I woke up yesterday morning, I felt like I had been run over by a mack truck. Luckily, Mondays are my days to work from home so I stayed in bed most of the day, with Molly next to me. Ethan stayed home from school yesterday as well and he came in and laid with us too. We all were feeling better, but it was rough.

So, today, Molly headed to my Mom’s and around 10:30, my mom called and said my grandmother fell. The ambulance came and got her and took her to the hospital. At first, they thought she broke her hip, but after X-rays and CT scans, they said she didn't and they released her from the hospital and she was able to go back to her place. I swear, if it is not one thing, it is another. Hopefully, we will be able to keep everyone safe and healthy!

I hadn't checked any blogs since Monday, so I had no idea that you had written this on Tuesday. It may have made me feel better if I had. This is a crazy virus. Holy shit. It was so disgusting wasn't it. I know what you mean about writing it all down, it does make me feel better too. So far, I am feeling fine and so is Dave. I hope I don't get it. How terrible. You are right, it came super quick and was gone immediately. It is something that just lasted like 12 hours. So crazy.

I hope the whole family is feeling better now.

I hope your grandmother is doing okay!
